A Christmas Gift for You

Nativity

Shh! Listen!
by Pamela Caldwell

Tsunamis crash; Hurricanes heave;
Airplanes slam; Soldiers fall.
Amidst the world’s sting, a baby cries.
Shh! Listen!

Homeless wander; Needy struggle;
Addicts hustle; Aged falter.
Amidst the nation’s toil, a baby cries.
Shh! Listen!

Grandfathers harm; Mothers indulge;
Parents fight; Fathers leave.
Amidst the family’s pain, a baby cries.
Shh! Listen!

Abram questions; Isaac mistrusts;
Jacob wrestles; David inquires.
Amidst the ancients’ doubt, a baby cries.
Shh! Listen!

Satan shudders; Priesthood distress;
Shepherds quake; Wisemen flee.
Amidst the players’ fear, a baby cries.
Shh! Listen!

Mary delights; Cousin leaps;
Joseph obeys; Manger shelters.
Amidst the Spirit’s joy, a baby cries.
Shh! Listen!
